Poi - Matt Wall (Sydney)
Level: Open
Poi is a great form of expressive dance, and while there are certain ‘moves’ that can be learnt, there is certainly no one way to dance with them. By grouping people of similar skill levels together, the workshop will aim to improve your skills on a conceptual level so you become more free and expressive in your dance. We will go through everything from simple cross overs to more advanced body wraps and jumps depending on where you’re at. The main aim is to have FUN and help each other learn!!
Bring your own practice poi and ribbon poi.
Matt as been playing with poi for over 9 years on and off. Originally self taught, progress was very slow and tedious to begin with. After performing in the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics he was introduced to a whole variety of twirlers, spinners and fire breathers. From this was born one of Sydney’s premier fire troupes, the fireartfanatics. Together they have done shows all over Sydney and the NSW east coast. The greatest achievement was establishing a regular gathering in Glebe where anyone could come along and learn or teach poi and staff. Matt loves teaching poi and has trained many a newbie to a level where they are confident to perform in front of a large crowd.
