Ma'isah
Ma'isah is Australia's own dark fusion belly dance pioneer, creating and innovating her own unique dance format called 'Elysium – dark fusion dance for ethereal souls'.
During the course of a dance journey that began in New York in 1999, Ma'isah has developed a strong foundation of Egyptian Cabaret and Beledi, and from the beginning adapted this to create and explore dark/gothic belly dance. Over the years Ma'isah has incorporated foundation skills of ATS and tribal influences with the aim of creating a spellbinding and ethereal dark fusion format with a deep, connected and spiritual foundation that enchants audiences and enriches dancers.
Ma'isah has been the opening act for Jeff Martin and the Armada, performed in the renowned Melbourne Fringe Festival, and is a well-regarded guest performer and instructor at several Middle Eastern dance festivals including the WAMED and OMEDA Festivals, Gothla USA, Tribal and Trance, Fire in the Belly, Evernight and more. You can see the 2012 PseudoSkirt project 'V4: Sacrament/Sacrifice', for the first time in PseudoSkirt history showcasing two simultaneous choreographies on stage together, at this years Tribal and Trance festival as one of only three official PseudoSkirt hosts in 2012.

Russian Gypsy is known for its playful skirt work, balletic spins, and classical elegance. The Hush Gypsy sets these elegant sequences alight with the earthiness, sauciness and passion of other gypsy styles from Eastern Europe, Turkey and Spain, resulting in a unique format called Modern Gypsy.
The Modern Gypsy choreography in this workshop will focus on creating expansiveness to your head and neck movement, including through the upper carriage.
Contrasting powerful lines with the vulnerability of softer and off-centre lines, and using the principles of tension and release, this workshop will give you more than a list of new moves. It aims to unleash new confidence and trust in ourselves, as well as some fantastic laughs.
The workshop will include a section on remedial trigger point and stretching for the neck, which is especially important for dancers who carry a lot of tension in their neck and shoulders.
Bring a big skirt and prepare for a lavish and hilarious explosion of dance with one of the most outlandish performers around.

Workshop Info
In this workshop, Emily will teach a beautiful choreography weaving traditional West African dance with ATS. The class will be done to live music - and it will be lots of fun!
The traditional West African style of dance is inherently joyful and approachable, suitable for all ages, and no previous experience will be necessary for this workshop. Aesthetically, the style appears looser and more outwardly energetic than the elegance and subtlety of ATS.
The aim of this workshop will be to weave ATS and West African in a way that makes aesthetic sense, feels enjoyable to dance and maintains the integrity of each style. We will explore how the points of intersection and contrast between two very different styles can be used to create interesting and exciting choreography.
*Bring a water bottle and dress to move.

Cue-able formations and multidirectional ATS for troupes of all sizes, adaptable for challenging and squeezy performance spaces.
Cinnabar Red Dance Collective's professional troupe, Ruby Dhatura, has performed weekly at Adelaide’s premier world music club for the past two years and during that time have developed their own signature dialect based on necessity. How to dance around drinks, drunks, tables and tapas and still present a varied, dynamic and powerful improvisational ATS performance, with audience on all sides, in a very up close and personal space!
Learn such performance techniques as round ups, reenies, pods, echopraxia, travelling teams, dangerous duelling duets, trios and quartets - all fabulous ways to have the whole troupe dancing at the same time! We will also touch on the ‘care and feeding’ of a professional troupe and the business etiquette that will help you obtain and keep that regular gig, after all, ‘a regular gig in a known environment is the best way to hone your troupes skills’ (Carolena Nerriccio in Tribal Talk, Nov 2000)
Evangeline Feary
A self confessed ATS® nerd, Evangeline, who has never been good at multitasking, on rediscovering dance at a late age ceased to do anything else, including housework. Evangeline is the director of Cinnabar Red Dance Collective and professional performance troupe Ruby Dhatura (which she sometimes likens to herding cats, an experience both exhilarating and exasperating). Cinnabar Red Dance Collective has recently relocated to a shiny and new studio in the Bowden Arts Precinct which is serendipitously and rather delightfully close to their favourite Spanish Deli and pub! On Saturday nights you can find Evangeline performing with the gorgeous Ruby Dhatura girls at Adelaide's premier world music club where they have become exceptionally skilful at dodging tables and tapas whilst dancing.
Evangeline has done all the usual workshops with all the people that you are supposed to, like everyone else, but possibly has spent longer drooling over antique Indian jewellery than you have. She is also creator of wearable and unwearable art as the Lion, the Bitch and her Wardrobe, purveyor of all things sparkly and lavish to adorn yourself in. When not dancing, she is worrying about not dancing.

In 2012 the PseudoSkirt project “Sacrament/Sacrifice” will have TWO simultaneous groups performing unique and separate choreographies together on stage at the same time, for the first time in PseudoSkirt history. Introducing Elysium Initiates, for beginner to intermediate level dancers with 'Sacrament' and Elysium Priestesses as Intermediate to Advanced dancers and select PseudoSkirt Alumni with 'Sacrifice', including a surprise performance prop [top secret]. The ONLY place you will see PseudoSkirt live in 2012 is at one of only three festivals Australia wide. We are proud to announce that the 2012 Tribal and Trance festival in NSW is a host for PseudoSkirt 2012 V4; Sacrament/Sacrifice.
Ma'isah
Ma’isah is Australia’s own dark fusion belly dance pioneer, creating and innovating her own unique dance format called ‘Elysium – dark fusion dance for ethereal souls’.
During the course of a dance journey that began in New York in 1999, Ma’isah has developed a strong foundation of Egyptian Cabaret and Beledi, and from the beginning adapted this to create and explore dark/gothic belly dance. Over the years Ma’isah has incorporated foundation skills of ATS and tribal influences with the aim of creating a spellbinding and ethereal dark fusion format with a deep, connected and spiritual foundation that enchants audiences and enriches dancers.
Ma’isah has been the opening act for Jeff Martin and the Armada, performed in the renowned Melbourne Fringe Festival, and is a well-regarded guest performer and instructor at several Middle Eastern dance festivals including the WAMED and OMEDA Festivals, Gothla USA, Tribal and Trance, Fire in the Belly, Evernight and more. She has also appeared at the Bizarre Music Festival, Deviate, the Nocturnal Instincts fashion show, performing and teaching since 2006.
Ma’isah also created the innovative and now much-anticipated ‘PseudoSkirt’, a remote learning top-secret choreography project with multiple dancers that share online and via DVD a unique never-been-seen before choreography, based on the Elysium format, to be performed at a major festival or event. You can see the 2012 PseudoSkirt project ‘V4: Sacrament/Sacrifice’, for the first time in PseudoSkirt history showcasing two simultaneous choreographies on stage together, at this years Tribal and Trance festival as one of only three official PseudoSkirt hosts in 2012.
Constantly evolving and challenging, Ma’isah continues to develop innovation in Elysium, with the aim of sharing, inspiring and being inspired by all who choose the dark dance path.
