Tribal Drum solo - Devi (Blue Mountains)
Level: Beyond beginners to advanced
How to use both choreography & improvisational skills to create an exciting Tribal style drum solo, that can also be modified for small group performances. Plenty of fluid snakey movements, locks & pops as well as tried & true ATS favourites. To help solidify the moves, Devi will teach you a short choreography with plenty of Drilling time.
Devi Mamak is troupe member and artistic director of the award winning Ghawazi Caravan, based in the Blue Mountains in N.S.W &. is one of Australia's premier American Tribal Style [ATS] dancers, teachers and choreographers having studied a variety of Middle Eastern dance styles for over a decade as well as Flamenco, Classical Indian & Ballet.
She has also traveled to San Francisco several times to study with the masters of ATS including FCBD, Gypsy Caravan, Ultra Gypsy & has dedicated herself to ATS since 1999. Devi is the only person in Australia to be accepted into Carolena Nericcio's intensive Teacher Training Course. Devi has now received her teaching accreditation in the highly regarded FCBD format, with several of Ghawazi Caravan movements being accepted into the FCBD format.
In 2006 she hosted the first Australian Tribal & Trance Festival which was a huge success with participants attending from all over Australia, N.Z & the U.S.A
Devi and Ghawazi Caravan are highly sought after for workshops and performances around the country and overseas. Devi has earned a reputation as a patient and thorough teacher. As a performer she is renowned for her strong stage presence, as well as her innovative and colorful choreographies.
Awards include Troupe of the Year 2006 & Runner up “Best Troupe” in The First Belly Dance Competition 2003.
